Our FacilitiesBelow are details of the facilities currently available at the Thomley Activity Centre. ![]() The Free Play RoomsThe free play rooms provide a stimulating and exciting environment where children can have the freedom to choose from a wide range of toys and games. For example they have the option of reading books, playing board games, dressing up, doing jigsaw puzzles, crawling through tunnels, playing with a train set or building with the wooden blocks.
The Art and Craft RoomThis area provides children with a very hands-on and quite often messy experience. The vast potential with art and craft activities and the endless supply of different types of materials ensures many varied tactile experiences. ![]() The Music RoomMusic is a very satisfying and intriguing medium for many children. The sounds produced can offer great comfort and happiness. The music room enables the children to freely experiment with sound, to express and communicate their feelings and to participate in another form of interaction away from verbal communication. ![]() The PlaygroundThis area provides an enclosed and safe surface on which playground and ball games can be played including basketball, parachute and football and our specially adapted trikes can be cycled.
The Adventure FieldCurrently our five acre field contains adventure play equipment including a rope walkway, an assault course, a climbing wall, a wheelchair accessible roundabout, two bucket swings with harnesses, two flat seat swings and a bed swing. This equipment sees the beginning of a much larger jigsaw which will transform the five acre field into a fully accessible adventure playground over the coming years. The Soft Play Room and Ball PoolThe soft play room is a colourful, safe and squishy environment where children can explore a clambering mountain, musical steps, a hanging sausage, an infinity hut, a sausage jungle, a shape stepping stone game and coloured wedges & lights. The room also includes a fantastic ball pool and shower! The Sensory RoomThe sensory room provides a stimulating yet peaceful and relaxing space where children can enjoy interactive bubble tubes, colour changers and mega buttons, as well as an interactive soft play cube. The room also includes UV lighting, light projectors, optic fibre curtains, cosmic netting, a vibrating bean bag, a sound system and a mirror ball. The Sensory Garden and WallThe sensory garden, with its decked walkways, allows children to either explore a sand trough, a herb trough, voice tubes, chime bar railings, a rustling grass trough or sit quietly under one of the two large trees. And its not everyday that you see Wellingtons, place mats, pebbles and shower scrunchies stuck to brightly coloured board! Although incredibly visual, the sensory wall allows children with visual impairments to feel the smooth, bobbly, rough and cold textures/surfaces and can also be used for points of reference (i.e., sink plugs by the toilets, crayons by the craft room etc.) The CanteenThe canteen provides a perfect area for visitors to enjoy a picnic or help themselves to tea, coffee and juice.
